My apprenticeship through No Egrets Tattoo Studio in Clarksville, TN, a military town not far from Nashville, was old school in the sense that it was a test of endurance and drive. Where one had to navigate through an obligatory hazing that could rival any fraternity/sororities while working side jobs while still finding time to make sure to do all the scrubbing of the metal tubes (disposables came on the scene later), running the autoclave, mopping at open and close, setting up peoples stations before even thinking about getting the privilege of drawing and touching peoples skin with a tattoo machine.

During my time in the industry I have seen the rise of pneumatic and stylus machines, the supply chain explosion, the effect of COVID on peoples careers and so much more. Things change but the love of the craft remains.

Since COVID drastically altered the industry and my own life I have moved to private bookings, typically in the areas my clients live. This has its pro’s as I have clients all over but I do miss the steady creative life of being in a studio and hope to one day return to that life when it presents itself.
